It seems appropriate to use the above 'little piggy' banner on this newsletter as this was taken at Fat Pig Farm a few years back. As you will read below, our connection with Fat Pig Farm continues at the Open Vineyards Weekend at the beginning of March - hopefully if you're a Tasmanian local or visiting the island you can pop in and say hello!
We've received some lovely accolades recently for the wines, especially the 2022 Palisander Pinot Noir but I was particularly happy to see my vineyard manager, Bryn Williams, acknowledged for his hard work at the recent Wine Tasmania Awards for 2023 VinØ Champion.
VinØ is a voluntary vineyard management program run by Wine Tasmania which provides a self-reporting framework to guide vineyards towards better sustainability reporting outcomes. We have been a member of the program for several years now so it's great to see that Bryn's hardwork on biodiversity, soil health, water management and carbon emissions pay off!
His hard work is also paying off in how the vineyards are looking this season. We've still got a couple of months to go, but the vineyard is looking tip-top as we head into veraison. Flowering went through in much better weather conditions than last year and the resultant fruit set is looking promising for some good crop levels particularly in the Pinot blocks. The next big task is putting nets out to protect the crop from birds - fingers crossed they stay on this year.
