2022 Stargazer Palisander Riesling

Samantha Connew sources fruit from various vineyards for her Stargazer label, but the backbone of the brand is her own Palisander vineyard, planted originally in 2004, and purchased and subsequently expanded by the winemaker in 2016. This riesling, made entirely from fruit grown at Palisander (pruned using Simonit&Sirch techniques), is absolutely thrilling: fermented in ceramic and concrete eggs and left on lees for 10 months before bottling, it’s all about delicate floral and citrus aromas and a beautiful, precise line of zest and pith along the tongue. Connew’s 2022 pinot noir ($65), also sourced from this vineyard (which is a finalist in this year’s VOTY awards), is terrific too: ripe, glossy black raspberry fruit and quite full, supple tannins. Both wines will mature well in the bottle. $45
