I'm one of those annoying people who always berates others about throwing their Coke cans in the bin, and puts paper back in the printer so I can print on the other side (the latter probably has something to do with my Scottish heritage). In any case, it's important to me that our packaging is as thoughtfully chosen as everything else we do at Stargazer, so I review our cartons, labels, bottles and screw caps each year with sustainability the foremost objective.
If you are eagle-eyed, you will notice that the bottles for the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are now considerably lighter than they used to be; 33% lighter in fact. In addition, they are sourced locally, rather than from overseas so that cuts down on some of the 'transport miles', and are produced from 40% recycled content. I've also switched to labels which are produced from a by-product of sugar cane production and of course the cartons and the carton tape are fully recyclable.
I'll continue to work with (and keep pushing) my suppliers on doing better in all of these areas, but I'd love to hear from you about whether you make wine purchasing decisions based on these choices?
