Winemaking is never a solitary endeavour (as much as sometimes I might want it to be!) It is an ongoing partnership between winemaker and grower, and at Stargazer, we are fortunate to work with a couple of additional vineyards that augment the fruit Guy takes care of at our home vineyard, Palisander. I’m delighted to introduce two people who are relatively new suppliers to us but who are an important part to the Coal River Valley story: Todd Goebel and Gill Christian of Brinktop.
Todd and Gill have been part of the fabric of the Coal River Valley since 1999. In 2017, they turned their focus to the stony, challenging slopes of Killara Farm, establishing a vineyard in the eastern part of the Valley on a site that is in many ways very similar to Palisander: underpinned by Jurassic dolerite with north-east facing slopes. It’s their home, the place where they’ve spent many years seeking to understand and connect with the site and place.
Working with growers who have such a deep, intentional connection to their land is aligned with Stargazer's ethos. It’s a privilege to share in the fruit of their labour and to see the character of GIll and Todd’s passion in our Chardonnay and Kura wines.
